The Lake Charles Mayor’s Armed Forces

Commission will host its seventh annual Patriot’s Ball on Saturday, June

29. The semi-formal

dinner and awards program will begin with a social period at 5:30

p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. by cadets from LaGrange

High's JROTC unit and the Sea Cadets.

“At the mayor’s direction, we do what we can for veterans and service people of the area,” said commission President James

Dodd. “We have representatives of all branches of the U.S. armed forces, including members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign

Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America and the Marine Corps League.”

The commission recently sent a resolution to Congress encouraging development of a permanent veterans clinic in Lake Charles,

he said. It also works to support the veterans clinic in Jennings.

“If a veteran has trouble with an agency or something, we are there to help,” Dodd said.

Four Patriot of the Year award recipients will be honored: Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier; retired Army

Command Sgt. Maj. James Stewart, who works for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office; retired Air Force Maj. Ron Williams,

executive director of the USS Orleck Naval Museum; and Axiall Corp., formerly PPG and Georgia Gulf.
