I've had these socks for a long time. Exactly how long I can't say -- and wouldn't even if I could -- but they've lost their elasticity, and now they fall down. A lot.
They pretty much need Life Alert. They've fallen, and they can't get up.
It dawned on me yesterday that I finally have something in common with one of my boyhood sports heroes, Pete Maravich. Yes, he of the floppy socks.
I don't know how floppy they are in those videos, but trust me: They were part of the Pistol Pete story. Check it out here.
A few hours after my discovery yesterday, I was returning home from running errands when I saw a young boy shooting baskets in front of his house. The goal was on a pole on wheels at the edge of the street, and he was shooting from the middle of the road. Luckily for him, it's a side street, not one that gets a lot of traffic. But still, dodging cars before trying to bury the 3? If you can create your own shot in rush-hour traffic, even on a back road, there's hope for you.
Truth be told, he didn't look like he could shoot any better than me. And wouldn't you know it? I forgot to check out his socks.
I'm guessing I'll have another chance.
