Dubois: The magical ride on the Big Easy Express continues

By By Carl Dubois / Special to the American Press

You may recall me telling you last year about the release of the documentary Big Easy Express.

The film is about a train ride from San Francisco to New Orleans, featuring the bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show. My nephew, Lake Charles native Gill Landry, is a member of Old Crow Medicine Show.

My post last year told you about Gill being part of the tour.

Sunday night, he was in Los Angeles for the 55th annual Grammy Awards, where Big Easy Express won the Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video.

The acceptance speech by director Emmett Malloy can be seen here.

Gill wasn't onstage during the event, but he appears in the red-carpet video below at around the 40-second mark (hat on, in the background).

He's wearing a white hat in this video from South By Southwest:

Some photos of him and his buddies at SXSW.

Southwest Louisiana had a good night at the Grammy Awards, as you can see here.

As you can imagine, my family is pretty excited. Congratulations, Gill, and if you have a minute, text your uncle a photo of a Grammy.
