By Special to the American Press

A 30-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder after shooting another man during a robbery attempt, authorities said.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said Ronald Gene Etienne Jr., Carswell Street, was arrested Friday morning.

Etienne was also charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted armed robbery with a firearm and possession with a firearm by a convicted felon.

Coats said officers were dispatched to West Cal-Cam Hospital in reference to a male subject with multiple gunshot wounds at 11:42 p.m. Thursday.

“Officers learned that the victim went to the apartment complex at 140 Cities Service Highway to meet a female,” Coats said. “He was approached by an individual who told him to give him everything and the individual then shot him.”

Coats said a witness transported the victim to the hospital and gave officers information of the suspect and the victim identified Etienne as the shooter.

“The victim was treated at West Cal-Cam Hospital and later transferred to Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, where he is listed in stable condition,” Coats said. “Friday, detectives located Etienne at his resident. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Swat Team was contacted and with their assistance, Etienne was arrested and taken into custody without incident.”
