Crime Roundup: Two charged in Moss Bluff meth lab bust

By Special to the American Press

Two Moss Bluff residents are facing charges after authorities discovered a meth lab Thursday afternoon.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office

spokeswoman Kim Myers said 40-year-old Melanie M. Barber and 23-year-old

and Austin P. Sonnier,

both of 584 Rollins Road, have been charged with 33 counts of

creation and/or operation of a clandestine lab, methamphetamine

possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Deputies were dispatched to the home

in an attempt to locate Barber, who was wanted on an active warrant for

drug possession

with intent to distribute and creation/operation of a clandestine

lab,” Myers said Friday in a news release. “Deputies observed

a disassembled meth lab outside of the residence.”

Myers said the Combined Anti-Drug Team and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Anti-Crime were involved in the arrest.

“Barber and Sonnier were found inside a

camper trailer located in the yard of the residence and refused orders

to open the

door,” Myers said. “A search of the camper trailer revealed 33

small meth labs, commonly referred to as shake and bakes, as

well as chemicals consistent (meth production).”

The Ward 1 Fire Department, the Lake Charles Fire Department and the Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat Team assisted on the scene

while Miller Environmental was called to dismantle and clean up the meth labs.

Myers said bonds are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

Sulphur man charged with assault, stalking

A 36-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of stalking, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office

spokeswoman Kim Myers said Kristian J. Gaudet, 610 Post Oak Road, was

arrested Tuesday morning.

“Deputies were dispatched to a Sulphur nightclub after Gaudet attempted to strike two victims with his car,” Myers said. “Gaudet

attempted to flee the scene and was arrested without incident.”

Myers said Gaudet had been stalking the victim, an ex-acquaintance, for several days.

“On this occasion, Gaudet waited outside the nightclub and when the victims got into their car to leave, Gaudet drove towards

their vehicle at a high rate of speed,” Myers said.

Gaudet was released after posting the $30,000 bond set by Judge Michael Canaday.
