Cowgirls stumble in try for sweep

McNeese State’s softball team dropped the final game of its Southland Conference series to Stephen F. Austin 2-0 Sunday.

The loss drops the Cowgirls to 29-10 overall and 10-3 in conference play while the win lifts SFA’s record to 12-24 overall and 5-10 in the SLC.

Stephen F. Austin did all of its damage in the sixth inning with both runs coming on one hit and one Cowgirl error. Shanice Love and Shalie Day drove in the runs.

The Cowgirls were held to three hits and left four baserunners stranded. Alanna DiVittorio, Emily Vincent and Mallory Livingston all had the hits for the Cowgirls. Vincent had the only extra base hit for McNeese with a double in her first at bat of the game.

Meagan Bond took the loss, falling to 14-4 on the season. Bond gave up three hits, two runs, one unearned, while striking out six.

McNeese will return to Ausin, Texas, on Wednesday to face No. 8 Texas in a make-up game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.””
