Cowgirls receive votes in top 25 poll

The McNeese State softball team, which has won 10 straight games, received votes in the USA Today/NFCA To 25 poll on Tuesday.

The Cowgirls (22-7) had six points in the poll, which had Oklahoma at No. 1 with 775 points and Nebraska at No. 25 with 52 points.

McNeese steps out of conference play tonight to host Louisiana-Monroe (13-14) at 6 p.m. The McNeese Dugout Club will have free hot dogs and chips for all McNeese students and kids of all ages.

The Cowgirls went 5-0 last week, winning a doubleheader over Bucknell and sweeping Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference series.

Freshman Emily Vincent, from Sulphur, leads the Cowgirls with a .375 batting average, seven home runs and 33 RBIs. She has a .489 on-base percentage to go along with 27 hits, six doubles and 20 runs scored.

Senior Meagan Bond, the Southland’s Pitcher of the Week, leads the staff with an 11-2 record, 100 strikeouts and a 1.14 ERA in 80 innings. She has won her last nine games.””
