Cowgirls open home schedule today against Texas Southern

The two-time defending Southland Conference women’s basketball champs will get to show off for the home folks for the first

time today at Barton Coliseum.

McNeese State (0-1) will host Texas Southern at noon.

“We love playing at home, in front of our fans,” said Cowgirls head coach Brooks Donald Williams. “We feel very comfortable

at Burton.”

McNeese is coming off an 82-71 loss to

16th ranked Vanderbilt in the season opener last week. Texas Southern,

also 0-1, is

coming off a 15-point loss to SMU. TSU is coached by WNBA legend

Cynthia Cooper, who led Houston to that league’s first three


Senior twins Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett will lead the Cowgirls into the game after both scoring 20 points against Vanderbilt.

With her 20 point output, Caitlyn moved into 11th place as the Cowgirls’ all-time scoring list. She also led the team with

five assists.

Ashlyn connected on three of five three-pointers in the game while several newcomers scored their first collegiate points

or grabbed their first rebounds.

Texas Southern had two players score in double figures against SMU. enior Brijan Turner scored a team high 16 points while

freshman Te’era Williams chipped in 10 points. Williams also led the team with eight rebounds.

Fans showing their tickets for Saturday night’s football game against Lamar will be admitted to the women’s game free.

McNeese will remain home to host Houston next Tuesday in a 7 p.m. game. Fans are asked to bring canned goods to be given to

Abraham’s Tent for Thanksgiving. Those donating canned goods will be given a voucher for free admission to a future game,

not Tuesday’s game.
