McNeese State’s softball team will conclude its regular season this weekend in Thibodaux against Nicholls State in a three-game

Southland Conference series.

The Cowgirls (36-13, 17-5 SLC), who lost their last two games, need two victories to claim the regular-season title and SLC

tournament’s No. 1 seed. They are two wins shy of tying the single-season school record set by the 2010 team.

Nicholls (22-24, 12-11), which has won its last three games, is playing for the sixth and final tournament spot.

The Cowgirls are led at the plate by

junior outfielder Alanna DiVittorio (.355, 9 HRs). She needs three runs

to break the

school’s single-season record of 48 and three walks to break the

single-season record of 38. She became the career walks leader

on March 9.

The Cowgirls have three other players — freshman Emily Vincent (.351, 9 HRs, 43 RBIs) and sophomores Ashley Modzelewski (.342,

5 HRs, 29 RBIs) and Lauren Langner (.333) — batting better than .300.

Senior pitcher Meagan Bond (17-5, 1.24 ERA) has 158 strikeouts. Freshman Jamie Allred (17-5, 2.12) has 133 strikeouts.
