Cowgirl softball finishes strong at tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas — McNeese State’s softball team concluded tournament play at the Texas Tech Invitational with an 8-4 win over Jackson State and a 4-1 tournament record.

Jackson State scored a run in the bottom of the first before McNeese came back in the second with two runs for a 2-1 lead. Stacey Conley and Lauren Langner drove in Katie Roux and Alanna DiVittorio. Another run by DiVittorio, who scored on an illegal pitch, gave McNeese (15-7) a 3-1 lead.

Jackson State got three runs in the fifth on three hits to take another lead. McNeese responded, scoring five runs in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead. McNeese collected five hits and also capitalized on two Jackson State errors in the outburst.

Langner led McNeese with two of its seven hits. Jamie Allred (7-2) picked up the win in relief of Emily Vincent, who went 4 1/3 innings. She gave up five hits, four runs and struck out one. Allred pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings, giving up one hit.

McNeese returns home this weekend to host Northwestern State in its Southland opener on Saturday, beginning with a 2 p.m. doubleheader and the series concluding with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.””
