Starting this month, City Councilwoman Mary Morris will host a series of community meetings focused on

spreading general information about the city and its endeavors. Morris said she encourages the public to attend the meetings.

“In keeping with my commitment to my constituents of District A, I’m presenting a series of two community meetings in the month of November,” she said. “The meetings will inform about budgets, pertinent issues, as well as get input from the community.”

The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the MLK Recreation Center at 2009 Simmons St. The second meeting is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 19 in the City Council Chambers.

Morris said the meetings were created because of her constituents. She said the residents in her district need to be informed about the things happening in the city.

“There are a lot of residents that don’t know much about the budgets — things like where our money comes from and what it’s spent on,” Morris said. “This will help keep the community informed.”

Morris said the meetings will also be a way for locals to have a say in what goes on within the Council Chambers. She said many residents just want a way to be a part of the decisions getting made.

“All I’m trying to do is make sure people are getting involved,” Morris said. “You have to remember that knowledge is power.”
