U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, will host his first town hall meeting since his re-election 9:30-10:30 a.m. today
at the Calcasieu Council on Aging, 3950 La. 14.
Boustany, who represents the newly redrawn 3rd Congressional District, encourages constituents to attend and discuss the latest
events affecting Southwest Louisiana.
Boustany will also answer questions and give a brief update on the latest news from Washington, D.C.
“Dr. Boustany always looks forward to
speaking with constituents in the district,” Neal Patel, Boustany’s
communications director,
said by email Wednesday. “The town hall in Lake Charles is an
event providing a welcomed visit back to Calcasieu Parish.”
Boustany, chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight, will seek to hold hearings on government waste,
fraud and abuse, he said.
“As a medical specialist, he will have a keen interest in abuses associated with health care, in addition to keeping an eye
on the IRS as the implementation of Obamacare begins to take effect,” Patel said.
“For example, the Government
Accountability Office (GAO) estimates that nearly $48 billion in
Medicare payments were subject
to fraud, waste or abuse. The federal government must operate more
efficiently. Stopping such abuses will be key to achieving
that goal.”
