Boomerang to kick off Downtown at Sundown

By Special to the American Press

Boomerang will open the 2012 Downtown at Sundown series on Friday.

The concert, set for 6-9 p.m., will be held in the street within the 600 block of Ryan, between Division and Mill streets. Lake Charles officials said the old Downtown at Sundown site will be used for parking this year.

“Downtown at Sundown features a variety of music from local and regional bands as well as food and beverage booths, table top galleries, and activities for kids,” said Denise Fasske, director of cultural affairs for the City of Lake Charles. “We want everyone to come downtown to patronize the businesses and see the ongoing Streetscape project.”

Fasske said Boomerang, which was formed in 2006, mixes funk, classic rock, country and top 40 music for an “enjoyable party experience that can cater to anyone’s tastes.”

Members of Boomerang are Billy Cormier, lead guitar; J.P. Booth, drums; Victor Montgomery, lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Greg Richardson, keyboards and Rod Lavergne, bass.

Fasske said that beverage sales will benefit the Harbour House, which provides intervention and prevention services which address the issues affecting youth and families who are in at risk situations.

The Downtown at Sundown series, which is presented by the City of Lake Charles, will continue each Friday for the following three weeks. The rest of the music line-up is Chris Ardoin and NuStep on May 25, Soul Vacation on June 1 and City Heat on June 8.

Fasske said in the event of inclement weather, the concerts would be moved inside the Lake Charles Civic Center.
