The final high school track and field meet of the regular season produced familiar results, with the Barbe boys dominating in the field and St. Louis girls burning up the track.

Those teams took the trophies at the Lake Charles Toyota Gator Relays at LaGrange. Barbe edged LaGrange 122-110 points in the boys meet while St. Louis won the girls meet 140-117 over Barbe.

Barbe won four field events, with Taylor Powers picking up wins in the discus (136 feet, 101⁄2 inches) and pole vault (12-6). John Lemke won the triple jump (44-3) and Isaac Sanders the javelin (155-1).

The Gators made up ground on the track, winning the first two relays, Robert Harrington (110) and Markell Thomas (300) winning the hurdles races and Deonté Goodly winning the 100.

The Gators took a one-point lead by winning the next-to-last event, the 200 meters, with Martell Hawthorne winning in 22.68 seconds.

Blair Henderson of St. Louis lowered his area-best time in the 800, winning in 1:50.47, the second-fastest time in the nation this season, according to Saints head coach Tommy Johns.

In the girls meet, St. Louis rallied on the track, getting a first and second in the 100-meter dash from Brianna Soram and Shondalyn Jasmine, who won the 300 hurdles. Sarah Booth won the 3,200 and finished second in the 1,600. The Saints also swept all three relays.

Rhea Thompson won the shot put and discus in the field for St. Louis.

“We got to see a lot of good teams tonight, we competed well,” Johns said. “I like what I am seeing going into the district meet.

“It is a short turnaround, so we had to limit what our kids ran, but they all performed well. The biggest thing we are stressing right now is qualifying at the big meets. Coming in, we were so young that we did not know what to expect. Throughout the season, the kids have rose to the occasion. What do you say about Henderson? That guy is unbelievable. We are still waiting for him to break that 1:50 mark. He wants it bad and is getting there. He almost got it today.”
