Homeless man critical after machete attack in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT (AP) — A homeless man is in critical condition after being attacked by a machete-wielding man in west Shreveport.

Police say they responded to a call about a brush fire just before 11 p.m. Tuesday near a homeless camp. Upon arrival, police say city firefighters had extinguished the blaze and were treating a man suffering multiple, severe lacerations.

Investigators say 42-year-old Eugene Bunn, of Shreveport, began arguing with another man over where Bunn wanted to kindle a fire. Police say Bunn then allegedly was attacked by 28-year-old Matthew Snider, of Shreveport, who was booked with one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Police spokesman, Cpl. Marcus Hines, says Bunn was hospitalized at LSU Health Sciences Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
