LAFAYETTE (AP) — Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel says he wants to sever ties with the city of Broussard because of bitter disputes with that municipality's leadership about annexation of land and an $825,000 wholesale water bill.
Lafayette currently provides Broussard with a number of municipal services — including wholesale water, fire department aid, animal control services and Public Works projects — as outlined in cooperative endeavor agreements between the two governments.
Durel said he does not want to extend any of those agreements.
Broussard Mayor Charles Langlinais said in a telephone interview with The Advertiser the move would unilaterally discriminate against the people of Broussard.
