Man indicted in New Orleans bomb case

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A 35-year-old New Orleans man has been indicted in federal court after authorities say he tried to use eight bombs to destroy his truck in February.

Federal prosecutors say Gregory Alexander is accused of parking his truck at a New Orleans bank on Feb. 25 while it contained several flammable liquid explosive devices.

U.S. Attorney Dana Boente's office says Alexander wanted to set the car on fire, claim it was stolen and then collect the insurance money.

Alexander was charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device, or bomb, and mail fraud.

The Advocate reported the truck was discovered by a police officer, who immediately evacuated businesses around the area. No one was injured.
