Authorities said a missing Sulphur teen, who did not return home from a prom after-party, was safe and back with her family Sunday night.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said 17-year-old Dovie Mellard was reported missing at 1:22 a.m. Sunday.

Mellard returned home from prom around 11:20 p.m. Saturday night to change clothes and go out for breakfast with her date. During breakfast, Mellard left with her ex-boyfriend.

Mellard's mother called the ex-boyfriend at 12:38 a.m. to tell Mellard, who does not have a cellphone, to come home. At 12:59 a.m., the mother called again and the ex-boyfriend said he had dropped Mellard off at home a couple minutes earlier.

Mancuso said earlier Sunday that there was no evidence that a crime was committed but officials were following up on some leads.

Patrolmen did a door-to-door canvassing of the area, which progressed throughout the day. Officials also issued a ringdown in the area.
