Another section of the Corbina Road extension project is finished, and the entire project could be completed by late November,

Calcasieu Parish officials said Thursday.

Crews extended Corbina Road from the roundabout at East McNeese Street about 1.4 miles north to East Prien Lake Road. District

9 Police Juror Kevin Guidry said crews installed about 700 feet of sewer and water lines along the area where the work was

Guidry, who represents the area where the project is located, said the area will be opened up for economic development.

“Once you start putting roads, sewer and utilities, you start getting subdivisions,” he said. “I think by putting this in

place, all the infrastructure is going to be there for stores and subdivisions. The growth is coming.”

Tim Conner, the parish’s engineer, said the project’s final section of work will extend from the roundabout at East McNeese

Street south to La. 14. Another 700 feet of water and sewer lines was already installed along East McNeese Street south to

La. 14, he said.

“The overall project will add

additional connectivity to our road system and should provide

opportunities for economic development,”

Conner said.

Guidry said the project’s last phase could likely boost growth for the Waterside subdivision. He said the subdivision now

has about nine houses, with developers anticipating building about 60 homes in the area.

“It’s going to be a great project once it’s done,” Guidry said. “To have this access we didn’t have before opens the door

up even more for economic development.”

The project’s first phase extended East McNeese Street from La. 14 to La. 397 and included a roundabout at Corbina Road. The

entire project has an estimated price tag of $11 million, Guidry said.
