Preregistration for the fifth annual Yellow Rails and Rice Festival is now open.
The festival will be Oct. 24-28 in Jefferson Davis Parish.
The festival seeks to provide participants a unique venue to view Yellow Rails while at the same time bringing birders and farmers together to realize the value of birds to the area’s “working wetlands.”
The festival is based in Jennings, but includes birding tours and field trips to area points of interest, including the pineywoods and the Cameron Parish coast. Rice field tours with an opportunity to ride on a combine to view yellow rails in the fields are also planned.
Registrants will receive a field pass number for the combine rides. Numbers will be assigned by registration date and time.
Registration will be available by PayPal.
