The Southwest Louisiana Poetry Out Loud competition will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Central School Arts and Humanities Center’s Ben Mount Auditorium.

Poetry Out Loud challenges high schoolers to memorize and perform poetry — an exercise in both public speaking and confidence building. Area community leaders will serve as judges for the competition.

The top three finishers will advance to the state competition in Baton Rouge. Winners of the state contests will go to the national competition in Washington, D.C., where over $50,000 in prizes will be awarded, including a $20,000 cash prize for the national winner.
