JENNINGS — The annual Pistons and Flake car show will cruise into the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday for a day of classic cars, hot rods and other speciality vehicles.

“Pistons and Flake is a custom automotive show that is geared toward classics, hot rods and antiques,” organizer Stuart Daigle said. “We only allow pre-1986-year vehicles.”

Admission to the show is free. Registration for show vehicles will be at 8 a.m. Cost is $20 per entry.

A car enthusiast, Daigle started Pistons and Flake in 2012.

“In the hot rod world it’s all about big motors and flake paint,” he said, explaining how the show got its name.

He also hosts the annual Last Resort car show in Jennings in the fall. “Our location is beautiful, and we love having it in Jennings,” he said. “It’s a great place to visit and close to interstate access.”

The “awesome location and the great rides” keep participants and spectators returning each year, he said.

Nearly 100 vehicles, including classics, antiques, bikes, hot rods and mini trucks, are expected to be at this year’s event. Last year’s event drew more than 60 entries.

“We are expecting some out-of-state participants from Texas and Mississippi,” Daigle said, adding that a lot of participants from last year will be returning.

A swap meet has been added to this year’s event.

“This is something that many enthusiasts look for to find hard-to-get car parts for their hot rods,” he said.

There will also be a variety of automotive industry vendors and clothing companies showcasing and selling their products, including pinstriping, powder coating and vehicle accessories.

Food and drink vendors will also be set up.

Awards will be presented at 4 p.m.

“We will be giving out top 25 awards, plus eight speciality awards,” Daigle said.

Entries will be judged on cleanliness, quality of work done, overall look, overall theme and restoration correction.
