The private company building a worker’s housing facility on Port of Lake Charles property awarded a construction contract Thursday to a local company.
The developer, Greenfield Logistical Solutions, awarded the contract for Geotechnical Engineering Services to Daniel J. Holder, P.E., Inc. of Lake Charles.
The services will provide the design information in support of the housing facilities, kitchens and dining halls, administration buildings, recreational areas, parking lots, roadways and underground utilities, according to the announcement.
The expected construction completion date for Pelican Lodge is set for the end of 2014, said Bill Rase, executive director of the port.
“It’s another step in the process,” Rase said. “It’s a very viable solution to the housing situation that is going to come about when the projects become a reality. Final investment decisions should be made by the end of the year for all of these projects.”
Pelican Lodge has been dubbed the largest temporary accommodations facility to be built in the United States, housing up to 4,000 workers in support of $65 billion in capital investments in the region. It will be located between La. 397 and James Sudduth Parkway.
