A 42-year-old Oakdale man died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Allen Parish, state police said.

Daniel Moreau, Troop D spokesman, said Sherwin Ashworth was driving on Sam Cloud Road when he lost control and hit an utility pole.

“Ashworth was not wearing his seat belt and was partially ejected,” Moreau said in a news release. “He was pronounced dead.”

Moreau said state police “would like to take this opportunity to remind and inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to buckle up.”

Troop D has investigated 14 fatal crashes which have resulted in 16 deaths this year.
