Two men were arrested earlier this week after stealing a vehicle and then leading deputies on a car and foot chase, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said deputies responded to a call about a stolen vehicle in the Prater Street and Old Spanish Trail area in Sulphur.

“Deputies saw a car matching the description and tried to stop it using lights and sirens,” Myers said Thursday in a news release. “The car fled from deputies before crashing into a small canal at the Evans Street and Old Spanish Trail intersection.”

Myers said the driver of the vehicle was 40-year-old Lonnie L. Crochet, 2418 Gaylynn St., Sulphur, and the passenger was 30-year-old Terry L. Brewer Jr., of Orange, Texas.

“As deputies handcuffed Crochet, Brewer fled on foot,” Myers said. “He was quickly caught him by deputies.”

Crochet and Brewer were charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle. Crochet was also charged with flight from an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia and Brewer was also charged with resisting an officer.

Judge Michael Canaday set Crochet’s bond at $55,000 and Brewer’s at $85,000.

The investigation continues and additional charges and arrests are expected, Myers said.

Detective John Casarez was the lead investigator.””
