NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana is adding 18 days to the red snapper season in state waters, and cutting the bag limit to two fish from June 1 through June 24.

It’s keeping a weekends-only season, with a three-fish limit, from the last weekend in June through September.

The June 1-24 season matches the federal season off Louisiana.

Regulators in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration say the changes won’t prompt any reduction in the federal season off Louisiana. NOAA Fisheries spokeswoman Allison Garrett said Wednesday that if Louisiana decides to keep state waters closed after June 24, more days might be added to the season in federal waters off Louisiana.

Louisiana’s top fisheries official, Randy Pausina, said Wednesday the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission will consider that at its meeting June 6.
