LEESVILLE (AP) — Vernon Parish authorities say a 22-year-old Rosepine mother is facing charges after her 10-month-old child tested positive for meth at a hospital.

The Town Talk reported detectives were contacted on Jan. 17 by Beauregard Memorial Hospital emergency room personnel about the child.

Detectives interviewed the child’s mother, Heather Jenkins, who said she had been to a house where meth was used and that the child may have been exposed while there.

Jenkins also said she had received and had used meth at that house in the past.

Jenkins was arrested and booked with possession of meth and cruelty to a juvenile. Her bond was set at $35,000.

Detectives began investigating the home in the Rosepine area, and contacted 55-year-old Michael Moore. Moore told detectives that the child was in the same room at the house while he and others smoked meth.

Deputies say meth with a street value of about $5,760 was found at the house. Moore, who was out on bond from a previous arrest on meth charges, was arrested and booked with possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, distribution of meth and possession of a controlled dangerous substance IV with intent to distribute.

Bond for Moore was set at $42,000, and he remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.
