Autism Services of Southwest Louisiana will hold its Autism Rocks fundraiser at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 26, in the L’Auberge Casino Auditorium.

The event will feature a live auction and a performance by opera tenor Paul Groves, who will reunite with his high school band.

“The last couple of times we held this fundraiser, we did Elvis for Autism, and we had a local Elvis impersonator put on a show,” said Crystal McGuire, executive director of Autism Services of Southwest Louisiana.

“But this year we’re doing a rock concert with Paul Groves … . The band will play ’70s and ’80s rock ’n’ roll, and it should be a really fun and loud party atmosphere for everyone to come out and dance.”

The live auction will include an overnight fishing trip in Big Lake; a one-week stay in Crested Butte, Colo., for eight; LSU baseball tickets; two tickets to see Groves and hotel and flight accommodations to Chicago; and a mounted 7-foot-tall elk.

The organization, which owns homes that house adults with autism, hopes to raise $100,000.

“These are not individuals who can live on their own, or without some kind of supervision and would typically have to live with their parents for the rest of their lives if they didn’t have the option to stay with us,” McGuire said. “We currently have two homes, but are looking to buy or build a third.”

Tickets are $50; tables for eight range from $2,500 to $10,000. Visit www.autismrocks.eventbrite.com or call 436-5001.””
