Starks students attend FFA event

Eight Starks High School students recently attended the annual state Future Farmers of America convention in Monroe.

They took part in leadership workshops and career development events and listened to guest speakers. Two Starks FFA members received statewide recognition.

Lucas Fritz placed first in his proficiency award area and qualified for nationals. Taylor Ashworth was elected state vice president of Area III. She is the first student from Starks High to attain this type of position in FFA.

Students who attended were Deven Ledoux, Madisyn Swain, Ashworth, Bryce Humphrey, Desiree Mott, Fritz, Madison Jones and Megan Norwood.

Locals among LSU honors grads

Several Southwest Louisiana students were among honors graduates recognized during LSU’s spring commencement exercises:

Magna cum laude SEmD Dylan Ryan Bruchhaus of Elton; Alexandra Ann Zaunbrecher of Lake Charles; and Baylea Cree Jones of Vinton.

Summa cum laude SEmD

Cody James Neal of Pitkin; Mary Margaret Laborde, Trang Le, John Paul Miller and Kyle Logan Paulk, of Lake Charles; and Trent Allen Bruchhaus of Elton.

Cum laude SEmD Katherine Elise Bruner, Laura Elaine Johnson and Hilarie Lauren Nixon, of Lake Charles; Kelsee Elyse Kirk of Sulphur; and Brittany Leigh Doise of Elton.

LC student earns degree from WGU

SALT LAKE CITY — Michelle Dejean of Lake Charles has received an MBA in health care management from Western Governors University.

Founded in 1997 by 19 U.S. governors, WGU has grown to become a national university with more than 46,000 students and 33,000 graduates in all 50 states.

Caruthers makes Trinity dean’s list

SAN ANTONIO — Kenneth Samuel Caruthers has been named to the dean’s list at Trinity University for the spring semester. To be eligible for the list, students must earn a 3.65 grade point average with at least 15 hours per semester.

Sadi earns master’s from Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Tanya Sadi of Lake Charles received a Master of Science degree during commencement exercises at Jacksonville State University.

She was among 728 candidates who received degrees this spring, making up the largest graduating class in the school’s history.(MGNonline)
