A Lake Charles woman pleaded guilty in 14th Judicial District Court Monday to killing two people whose car was stalled on the U.S. 171 Calcasieu River Bridge in April 2012.

Megan Lynn Schexnider, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular negligent injuring. Her plea was not part of a deal.

She was scheduled to go to trial this week.

Schexnider will be sentenced July 26.

Vincent Austin was changing a tire in the northbound lane of the bridge on April 22, 2012, when he was struck by the vehicle driven by Schexnider.

The stalled car had its hazard lights on, prosecutor Jonathan Blake said.

He was killed, as was a 13-year-old girl in the car, Dalensia Rose.

Rose was Austin’s daughter, Blake said.

Schexnider was swerving and driving over the speed limit when she struck the other vehicle, the prosecutor said.

She had hydrocodone, carisoprodol, ambien and meprobamate in her system and “impairment caused the accident,” Blake said.””
