A Lake Charles man who spent nearly a decade on the lam pleaded guilty in 14th Judicial Court on Monday to cruelty to a juvenile.

Prosecutor Bobby Holmes said Joshua Banks, 32, was accused of scalding a baby’s right leg in hot water in a pot on the stove in 2001.

Banks, who lived with the child’s mother, was charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, but left for California shortly after, Holmes said.

He returned to Lake Charles in 2011 and turned himself in, the prosecutor said.

Banks was sentenced to three years in prison — eight total with five suspended.

Holmes said the plea deal was done “in consultation with the family. It was taken to bring closure to the family after 12 years.”

Banks is to report to Calcasieu Correctional Center on Monday.””
