A 24-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested after allegedly beating his girlfriend and killing her dog, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Sean L. Collett, 203 Cobb Road, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree battery and aggravated animal cruelty.

Myers said Collett and his girlfriend got into an argument which turned into a physical altercation.

“The victim told deputies Collett dragged her through the living room, choked her and also struck her several times in the lower jaw and back causing severe bruising,” Myers said Tuesday in a news release. “When the victim attempted to flee, Collett smashed her hand with a door and grabbed her arm, leaving bruises.

Myers said during the altercation, the victim’s dog began barking at Collett.

“(That) led to Collett throwing the dog against the walls several times, killing the dog,” Myers said.

Myers said the victim was treated at a local hospital and released.

Judge Ron Ware set Collett’s bond at $30,000.

Sr. Cpl. Chris Ramos was the arresting deputy.””
