Lake Charles man accused of beating elderly family member

A 42-year-old Lake Charles is facing multiple charges after allegedly striking a 72-year-old family member, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Matthew F. Taylor has been charged with violation of a protective order, second-degree battery and cruelty to the infirmed.

“On Feb. 12, deputies were dispatched to a home on Kingham Street in Lake Charles in reference to a disturbance,” Myers said Friday in a news release. “Deputies discovered Taylor struck the family member numerous times, which caused severe bruising. The investigation also revealed the elderly victim had an active protective order against Taylor. The victim has a fractured collar bone, two sprained wrists and multiple contusions to the head, upper arms and hands.”

Myers said Taylor who has a lengthy criminal history which includes six arrests for simple battery against the same female family member since 2005, was arrested on Friday.

Judge Wilford Carter set Taylor’s bond at $75,000.
