A Lake Arthur woman died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash on US 190 at La. 99 in Jefferson Davis parish.

Alice Landry, 68, was driving a 2005 Buick when she failed to stop at a stop sign at US 190, the preliminary investigation revealed. The crash occurred at 6:30 a.m. and Louisiana State Police Troop D responded, according to a news release.

Landry’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by an eastbound 2001 Mercury, which was driven by Sierra Leonard, 20, of Elton.

Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash.

Landry was pronounced dead at the scene although she was wearing a seatbelt. She died as a result of injuries caused by the severe impact on driver’s side of the car.

Leonard and an 11-month-old infant riding with her were transported to a Lake Charles hospital with moderate injuries. Leonard was not wearing a seatbelt and investigators suspect the child seat was not properly installed.

“Routine toxicology samples were obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis,” spokesman Sgt. James Anderson said in a news release. “The crash remains under investigation.”””
