LSU’s broom broken by Miss. State bats Bradford, Rea

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Centerfielder C.T. Bradford and first baseman Wes Rea each drove in three runs Sunday as Mississippi State salvaged the final game of the weekend series against LSU with a 10-2 victory.

LSU, which won the first two games of the SEC series, is 18-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Mississippi State is 19-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

“It just wasn’t our day today, and it’s not a loss we’re going to dwell upon,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “I’m very proud of our players for winning two games here in a very tough environment. I thought they played their hearts out and gave us a good start in the SEC race.”

LSU had 11 hits but stranded 11 runners, hit into three double plays and didn’t score until seventh inning.

LSU scored on JaCoby Jones’ sacrifice fly in the seventh, which ended with a bases-loaded double play.

The Tigers’ other run came on a pinch hit home run by former Barbe player Jared Foster.

LSU pitcher Cody Glenn (3-1), making his first career SEC start, allowed six runs on six hits in 313 innings with three walks and no strikeouts.

Mississippi State starter Kendall Graveman (2-1) was credited with the win. He limited LSU to one run on seven hits in six innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

RBI doubles by rightfielder Hunter Renfroe and by Rea against Glenn gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 first-inning lead.

MSU extended the lead to 3-0 in the second when Renfroe drew a bases-loaded walk from Glenn.””
