GRETNA (AP) — Freshman LSU defensive back Ricky Jefferson pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor and has been sentenced to two years’ probation in connection with his arrest along a Mardi Gras parade route in Metairie last February.

The 18-year-old Jefferson, whose older brother is former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, entered a plea of resisting arrest, along with two other defendants who received the same probation terms.

Ricky Jefferson initially had been charged with felony resisting arrest by force after allegedly attacking a plain-clothes officer who was arresting one of his friends, David Sampson, for his alleged refusal to stop using profanity along the parade route. Sampson resisted, and then Jefferson and Sharp joined the scuffle.

“We consulted with the sheriff’s office before accepting this plea,” First assistant Jefferson Parish prosecutor Steve Wimberly said. “They were in complete agreement with the plea. All three defendants accepted complete responsibility and apologized to the officers.

“We would not have reduced this case without full concurrence of the sheriff’s office,” Wimberly added.

Les Miles, coach of the 12th-ranked Tigers, has yet to comment on the plea agreement. He was not scheduled to meet with reporters until Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Miles reinstated running back Jeremy Hill, LSU’s top rusher from last season, after he pleaded guilty to his second misdemeanor since January 2012 and a judge in Baton Rouge agreed to allow Hill to remain on probation under a curfew and bar ban rather than sending him to jail for a probation violation.

Jordan Jefferson also had legal trouble while at LSU. He was suspended four games in 2011 and returned to action after his felony charge stemming from a bar fight was reduced to a misdemeanor.
