Hobo Hotel Inc., a no-kill shelter for cats in Lake Charles, will hold its Sweet Art Silent Auction on Saturday, Feb. 23, to raise money to cover expenses for the nearly 70 cats in its care. The auction will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Imperial Calcasieu Museum.

“The auction offers art in the very broadest sense. We have photo albums, jewelry, knitted work, photography, paintings, prints and a lot of hand-thrown pottery,” said Hobo Hotel board member Robin Anderson.

“We’ll also have sweets. Our volunteers and local bakeries donate cakes, pies and cookies. We will have close to 100 pieces of art up for auction, as well as 20 different sweets.”

Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for $5. The winner will take home a limited-edition George Rodrigue print valued at $500, as well as a $250 framing allowance.

“Every cat that comes through our doors is spayed or neutered and given their first round of shots, so we have huge vet bills. We also have some paid workers who clean the shelter daily.

“Whether this auction makes a lot of money or only a little bit, it all goes straight to the cats.”””
