DERIDDER (AP) — State police said a 27-year-old DeRidder man was killed after his truck struck an SUV in Beauregard Parish.

The accident happened late Wednesday night on La. 26, east of U.S. 171.

Sgt. James Anderson said Brian Lavelle Martin was westbound on La. 26 when his pickup hit an eastbound SUV driven by 67-year-old Doksun Kim O’Connor, also of DeRidder.

Anderson said impairment on the part of Martin is suspected to be a factor and a toxicology sample was obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis.

Anderson said Martin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. O’Connor, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
