Cowgirls complete sweep of HBU

HOUSTON — McNeese State’s softball team completed is a sweep over Southland Conference rival Houston Baptist with a 5-3 win on Sunday.
McNeese (32-10, 13-3 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI-single by Taylor Goree, scoring Katie Roux who reached on an error.
Emily Vincent led the inning off the fourth inning with a double before scoring after three Cowgirls were hit by pitches, including two with two outs in the inning.
McNeese extended its lead to 3-0 in the fifth when pinch runner Megan Knipper scored on a Houston Baptist error.
The Huskies (13-19, 6-12 slc) scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth when Mac Christensen scored on a double by Rebecca Rademacker lead to 3-1. Houston Baptist tied the game at three in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs on four hits.
Alanna DiVittorio led the seventh inning off with a walk, stole second then went to third on an error. DiVittorio came home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Vincent.
Freshman Jamie Allred picked up the victory in relief to improve to 15-3 on the year. Allred pitched 12⁄3 scoreless innings and gave up two hits, walked one and struck out one.
McNeese will return home Wednesday to host nationally ranked LSU in a single game beginning at 6 p.m.
