“Dr. Boustany always looks forward to speaking with constituents in the district,” Neal Patel, Boustany’s communications director, said by email Wednesday. “The town hall in Lake Charles is an event providing a welcomed visit back to Calcasieu Parish.”

Boustany, chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight, will seek to hold hearings on government waste, fraud and abuse, he said.

“As a medical specialist, he will have a keen interest in abuses associated with health care, in addition to keeping an eye on the IRS as the implementation of Obamacare begins to take effect,” Patel said.

“For example, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) estimates that nearly $48 billion in Medicare payments were subject to fraud, waste or abuse. The federal government must operate more efficiently. Stopping such abuses will be key to achieving that goal.”
