Every morning, the Newseum Institute in Washington, D.C., showcases the front pages of more than 800 newspapers from around the world both on its website — www.newseum.org — and in a digital exhibit in its museum. For Friday’s edition, the institute took it a step further and chose the top 10 front pages from across the world for the anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. The American Press was one of them.

“Fifty years ago today, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. Today’s front pages keep his memory alive with stirring stories and moving images,” John Powell wrote in his announcement of the institute’s top 10 honorees. “From Dublin to Dallas, from Hyannis, Mass., to Hutchinson, Kan., newspapers pay tribute to one of America’s most unforgettable presidents. Louisiana’s American Press asks readers to reflect on where they were when they first heard the news.”

Other newspapers recognized by the institute were the Irish Times in Dublin; The Hutchinson News, Hutchinson, Kan.; Cape Cod Times, Hyannis, Miss.; The Standard-Times, New Bedford, Mass.; Reno Gazette-Journal, Reno, Nev.; The Vindicator, Youngstown, Ohio; The Dallas Morning News, Dallas; Longview News-Journal, Longview, Texas; and Victoria Advocate, Victoria, Texas.

“I appreciate all of the hard work from Donna Price, our graphic artist, who designed the front-page package for Friday,” publisher Tom Shearman said. “And the many talented people at the American Press who put tremendous thought and talent into each day’s editions.”

The American Press is also featured daily on the website’s “Today’s Front Pages” gallery, which gives visitors to the museum and those surfing online an up-close look at the day’s news on front pages from every state, the District of Columbia and countries around the world.
