Nine new members elected to Calcasieu School Board

In one of the largest turnovers in years, come January the Calcasieu Parish School Board will have nine new members. Tuesday night’s election featured contested races in 11 of the 15 districts, with only five incumbents running — two of whom were defeated. The results below are complete but unofficial.

In the District 1 race between newcomers Aaron Natali and Brandon Perkins, Natali won with 2,506 votes, or 66 percent; Perkins had 1,313 votes, or 34 percent.

District 2 incumbent Fredman Hardy beat out newcomer Jules Menou with 2,595 votes, or 65 percent. Menou had 1,383 votes, or 35 percent.

District 3 candidates Glenda Gay and Edwina Medearis will face each other in a runoff on Dec. 6. Gay had 1,370 votes, or 38 percent, and Medearis had 1,215 votes, or 34 percent. Gay and Medearis beat out Bill Shearman, who had 1,004 votes, or 28 percent.

District 5 newcomer Ron Hayes ousted incumbent Dale Bernard from his seat with 2,190 votes, or 56 percent. Bernard earned 1,729 votes, or 44 percent.

Newcomers Ted Atterbery and Dean Roberts in District 6 will face each other in December’s runoff election. Atterbery and Roberts defeated candidates Gino Lubrano and Debbie Theriot.

Atterbery earned 1,173 votes, or 27 percent; Roberts earned 1,454 votes, or 33 percent; Lubrano had 1,013 votes, or 23 percent; and Theriot had 750 votes, or 17 percent.

District 7 incumbent Mack Dellafosse won by a wide margin over newcomer Randy Thibodeaux with 2,579 votes, or 74 percent. Thibodeaux earned 885 votes, or 26 percent.

In District 8, newcomer Eric Tarver ousted incumbent Jim Schooler, with 2,840 votes, or 69 percent. Schooler had 1,298 votes, or 31 percent.

In the District 9 race between newcomers Max Caldarera and Jason Elliot, Caldarera won with 2,485 votes, or 60 percent. Elliot earned 1,678 votes, or 40 percent.

Becky Grove and Alvin Smith in District 10 will face each other in the December runoff. Grove earned 1,563 votes, or 42 percent, and Smith earned 1,113 votes, or 30 percent. Grove and Smith beat out Anthony “Tony” O’Banion who earned 1,066 votes, or 28 percent.

District 13 incumbent Billy Breaux retained his seat, earning 2,208 votes, 54 percent. Breaux defeated newcomers Joy Abshire, who earned 1,386 votes, or 34 percent, and Jesse Fontenot, who had 504 votes, or 12 percent.

In District 15, newcomer John Duhon won by a wide margin over newcomer Tammie Pettis. Duhon earned 3,289 votes, or 72 percent. Pettis earned 1,306 votes, or 28 percent.(MGNonline)
