Serpas says police are searching the neighborhood for the suspected shooter, and are advising residents to remain inside their homes. The St. Claude Avenue bridge over the Industrial Canal was closed and a helicopter has been called in to assist.

Serpas says a former officer picked up the injured officer’s radio and reported the shooting.””
