The McNeese State University performing arts department will present a free spring choir concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Shearman Fine Arts Theatre.
The Concert Chorale, Ladies’ Vocal Ensemble, Men’s Vocal Ensemble and Chamber Singers will perform, under the direction of Darryl Jones, assistant professor of music.
Accompanists will be Megan Reilly, Yiseul Kim and Lina Morita.
Concert Chorale selections will include “Cantate Domino” by Giovanni Croce; “All at Once Well Met Fair Ladies” by Thomas Weelkes and accompanied by a woodwind quintet; and “Crucifixus” from the “Mass in B minor” by J.S. Bach.
Ladies’ Vocal Ensemble selections will include “It Was a Lover and His Lass” by Thomas Morley; “Wir eilen mit schwachen, doch emsigen Schritten” from “Cantata No. 78” by J.S. Bach; and George Gershwin’s “Clap Yo’ Hands” arranged by Pete King.
Selections performed by the Men’s Vocal Ensemble will include “Aura Lee” by George Poulton arranged by Ralph Hunter, Alice Parker and Robert Shaw and “Sh-Boom” arranged by J. David Moore.
Chamber Singers will perform several selections, including “Kyrie” from “Petite Messe Solennelle” by Gioachino Rossini and accompanied by Reilly on harmonium; “A Jubilant Song” by Norman Dello Joio; “A Boy and a Girl” and “This Marriage” by contemporary composer Eric Whitacre; and “Ride On, King Jesus” arranged by the late New Orleans composer Moses Hogan.
