McNeese percussionists perform free concert tonight

The McNeese State University Department of Performing Arts will present two senior percussion recitals Oct. 24 in Ralph Squires Recital Hall in the Shearman Fine Arts Building.

Taylor Teague of Moss Bluff will perform at 7:30 p.m. His program will include “Ransom” by Mark Ford; “March” by Elliot Carter; and “Blues for Gilbert” by Mark Glentworth.

Mathew McMillen of Sulphur will perform at 8 p.m. His program will include “Virginia Tate” by Paul Smadbeck; “Saëta” by Elliot Carter; and “Prime Ordinals” by Jim Casella.

They will perform a special joint percussion performance of “CaDance for Two Percussion” by Andy Pape.

Teague, a music education major, instructs the percussion sections of both the Sam Houston and the Westlake High bands. He will student-teach at Barbe High School in the spring.

He is a former marching member of The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps and has performed with the Lake Charles Symphony.

McMillen, a music education major, is the drum-line section leader of the Pride of McNeese Marching Band, a member of the Steel Band and principal percussionist of the Wind Symphony.

He has performed as the first electronic keyboardist with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps and with the Lake Charles Symphony and the Banners Jazz Band.

He is also a drum-line instructor for Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in Orange, Texas.
