Rob Sale has Georgia on his mind, and soon to be signing his paychecks.

McNeese State’s offensive line coach was hired to the same position by Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt on Saturday, ending his three-year tenure with the Cowboys.

“I firmly believe Rob Sale is going to be the perfect fit for Georgia,” Richt said.

Pun wholly unintended, Georgia has gone through wholesale changes on the offensive side of the ball this offseason with Richt hiring Brian Schottenheimer from the St. Louis Rams’ staff earlier this week to be the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator.

Sale helped mold two Football Championship Subdivision all-Americans in his stay at McNeese — Arinze Agada in 2013 and Antoine Everett this past season. He also served as McNeese’s co-offensive coordinator in 2014.

“I want to thank Rob and Amanda Sale for three great years at McNeese,” said Cowboys head coach Matt Viator. “On behalf of our staff and team, we want to congratulate Rob for getting such a great opportunity and wish him continued success.”

Viator now has to recruit a new assistant coach in addition to a new batch of players with signing day coming up in less than a month.

“I’ve already spoken with (Athletic Director) Bruce (Hemphill). We’re going to try to move fast,” Viator said. “It’s a critical time in recruiting. It’s important we get the right person, but do so in a time frame that can benefit us in recruiting.”

Last year Viator had to replace wide receivers coach Broderick Fobbs, who was hired as Grambling State head coach, and quarterbacks coach Art Asseleta, who was hired by Yale.

“It means you’re hiring the right guys,” Viator said of the turnover he’s had to face on a semi-regular basis.

Sale came to McNeese from Alabama, where he worked a variety of jobs on Nick Saban’s staff from 2007-11, including weight room assistant and offensive video analyst.

Sale is a 35-year-old Monroe native who graduated from LSU, where he played for Saban.

Sale interviewed for LSU’s offensive line coach vacancy last year but was passed over in favor of Jeff Grimes.

Sale is held in high regard by former players as well as coaches.

“The news of Coach Sale’s hiring at UGA is no surprise to me,” said Miguel Gauthreaux, who played right guard and center for Sale as a senior in 2012. “Rob is an excellent football coach and technician and has the potential to open a pipeline to a recruiting hotbed and possesses years of tutelage under the best college coach in the country (Saban). In short, he will be a great asset to any staff and I value the time I had under him at McNeese State.”””
