Two people were shot at Wiley B. McMillan Community Center and Park Thursday night on the one-year anniversary of a triple homicide at the complex, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at a candlelight vigil for last year’s homicide.

One of the shot was transported to a hospital, while the other person was grazed by a bullet and only required medical treatment at the scene, said Deputy Chief Mark Kraus, Lake Charles Police Department spokesman. The condition of the person transported to the hospital was unknown.

An arrest has been made in the shooting, although police are not yet releasing his name, Kraus said. A motive is unknown.

Around 300 people were at the vigil, Kraus said. He said he did not know if police were already at the park.

Police put up crime scene around the community center and park, which encompasses nearly an entire city block.

“At the end of the day when you’re at a candlelight vigil for a triple murder the furthest thing from one’s mind should be arguing or fighting,” Kraus said. “Even further from that should be responding with a deadly weapon.”

The park was the scene of a robbery and killing on the evening of March 20, 2013. Police said three men, Jeminskian J. Arvie, 20, David Jermaine Galmore, 23, and Fitzgerald Tremayne Guillory, 20, were playing dice when they were robbed and killed.

Armonta Hadnot, 19, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
