A Sulphur man was sentenced Monday to two years in prison for duct-taping a 7-year-old boy in September 2012.

Brandon Lee Sullivan, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of cruelty to juveniles.

While Sullivan claimed he was duct-taping the boy to tickle him and have fun with him, the boy said he was “terrified,” prosecutor Rick Bryant said. Sullivan reportedly duct-taped the boys hands, wrists, ankles and head.

Bryant recommended an 18-month sentence, but Judge David Ritchie sentenced Sullivan to 24 months, with credit for time served, because he wanted Sullivan to be kept on probation longer.

“I think there ought to be some type of supervision because I have some concern for the children,” Ritchie said.

The Department of Family and Child Services is involved, according to court testimony.

Sullivan was arrested in 2011 on allegations he was running a clandestine lab. After he was arrested in 2012, he was arrested again in October 2013 on accusations that he bruised the lower back and buttocks of a family member.

The second arrest for cruelty to a juvenile came after Sullivan left rehab, according to court testimony.

A drug charge and the other cruelty to a juvenile charge was not pursued because it was not “provable,” Bryant said.

“The bottom line is, at 24 months, that’s a really good deal for you,” Ritchie told Sullivan.(MGNonline)
