LifeShare Blood Centers asking for Type O donations

Last Modified: Friday, August 10, 2012 11:56 AM

LifeShare Blood Centers said on Thursday that the local blood supply is running low on Type O blood and is requesting that eligible donors come forward and give as soon as possible.

“We are very concerned about the low type O blood inventory. It takes at least 24 hours after someone gives blood before it is available for use. This, combined with the low number of donors during the summer, could result in the blood supply reaching a critical level very quickly. In order to avoid this, we need more donors every day, especially now and through the weekend,” said LifeShare spokesperson Tina Martinez.

For center hours, to locate a convenient mobile blood drive, or to make a donation appointment, go to www.lifeshare.org or call the LifeShare location nearest you.

The Lake Charles office can be reached by calling 436-4932 or 1-800-256-4932.

Martinez said individuals will receive a mini-physical prior to donating, including a check of temperature, pulse, blood pressure and iron level.

Donors must be at least 16 years old, have legal identification and meet height and weight requirements.
