Lake Charles team wins national tennis title

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — A men's team from Lake Charles placed first Monday in the United States Tennis Association's League 3.0 Senior National Championships at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Lake Charles team, representing the USTA Southern Section, beat Puerto Rico 2-1 in the finale. Earlier in the day, they defeated a team from Olympia, Wash., 2-1 in the semifinals.

The squad, which plays at the Lake Charles Racquet Club, is captained by Daniel Losey and features Steven Lamar Rice, Daniel Lee Allen, Chris Baggett, Lionel Butter, Lloyd L. Calcote and Randall Dean Stout.

This event drew the top 33 teams -- 16 men’s and 17 women’s -- from throughout the nation.
